For generalised FAQs, please see our "About Us" section.
What is the average / max size of a snow tour group?
The maximum size of a snow tour is 16 people. We book out in advance for tours during peak season so our average passengers can be very close to 16.
What is the tour bus like?
We normally use a 22 seater Toyota Coaster, with a trailer for all your gear. As we only fill the bus to a maximum of 16 people, there are always some extra seats to lounge about!
Who are the tour guides?
Our Tour Managers Steve and Mike are passionate snow-enthusiasts with heaps of experience in guiding. They are there to ensure you have the best time possible! Last year a tour member said Steve had an "ebullient and infectious can-do personality"...! Mike is a current international snowboard judge and was the guide for the Quiksilver Team when they travelled New Zealand with us.
What happens if a mountain is shut?
We make amendments to our tour route if any mountains are shut or have very poor conditions - going to a different mountain if at all possible! If not possible, we will refund the wholesale rate for your lift pass.
Do you operate a minimum numbers policy for the tour to run?
Yes but it is incredibly low at just four people!
I am a beginner. Can I purchase more lessons?
Yes. If after your two initial lesson days you still feel you would like more instruction, we can organise this for you on the day. The price is from approx $55 NZD per person for a group lesson.
What is the quality of the hire gear?
The majority of our hire gear is new for this year! Skis are from 4FRNT, Atomic and Salomon. Boards are from Burton and Academy. Poles are from Scott. Clothing is from Aggression and ski boots are from Nordica. Equipment/gear will be hired on the morning of Day One and you will have the same gear for the duration of the tour which means you can get used to it and hence progress much quicker. Your gear will be matched to suit your ability and experience.
What is the standard of the accommodation?
We stay at high quality backpacker hostels and lodges, and all accommodation is reviewed seasonally to make sure it is the best available. The standard accommodation is 4-6 sharing in one room. You can upgrade to a private room (double/twin) for the duration of the tour for $499 NZD. (This is the price for the room so if 2 people are booking, the price can be divided by two.) Your upgraded room will have an en-suite in Lake Tekapo and Wanaka but not at Haka Lodge in Queenstown as none of the private rooms have en-suites - though the rooms are a very high standard with flat-screen TV's and DVD player and hotel standard queen beds.
Can you help me out for extra days before and after the tour?
Yes, we can arrange trips to Mt Hutt near Christchurch with accommodation in Methven, or time at Coronet Peak or The Remarks, with accommodation in Queenstown. Just ask!
Is this the best New Zealand ski tour?
We like to think so, yes! If you still need convincing, just check out our [tour reviews] (http://www.rankers.co.nz/experiences/4722-Haka_Snow_Tours).
